This combination of strength and precision makes it a reliable choice for demanding environments.

One of the most remarkable qualities of fused quartz is its incredibly low thermal expansion, a mere fraction of that in materials like copper or borosilicate glass. A related property is its unusually high thermal shock resistance. For example, you can heat thin sections rapidly to above 1500°C and then plunged into water without cracking.
